Chris Gilmour

Chris Gilmour is an English artist who was born in Stockport in 1973. Chris is famous for his life-sized sculptures, of everyday objects, which he makes out of recycled cardboard. His earlier work was mainly created from new, clean cardboard. However, he has now moved on to using recycled cardboard often found on the street with their labels still on. Chris’ earlier work, using new cardboard, was often so realistic and perfectly presented that some people believed the items were of real objects wrapped in cardboard. This show how accurately and delicately he could manipulate cardboard to create his work to create everyday items such as: bicycles, motorbikes, cars, chairs, typewriters etc. Chris now lives in Italy and, in 2006, he won the 7th edition of Premio Cairo which is a prize for young artists in Milan.
